Here, we’ll be introducing you to the Takachiho shrines that offer blessings in fateful events, particularly in one’s love life.
Whether you’re looking to get married, have a crush, or want to stay with the person you love for the rest of your life—this is for you!
Here are the best shrines when it comes to fateful events, marital harmony, and more.
Aratate Shrine, a sacred site that was home to the gods
Aratate Shrine is said to be where Sarutahiko-no-Mikoto and Ama-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto lived when they got married. It was named “Aratate Palace” because the palace had been built so hastily, using freshly-cut, unseasoned timber (the Kanji characters for “aratate” translate roughly to “hastily built”).
The shrine offers blessings in one’s love life in the form of fateful events, marital harmony, and the fulfillment of various wishes. Considering it was home to newly-married gods, the shrine could very well be considered a sacred site when it comes to fateful events!
The Mirai Bangi is a heart-shaped board located on the grounds of the shrine. Hit the wood board seven times to receive blessings that include healing, meeting someone new, a closer bond, or a boost to your romantic fortunes.
You can also get omamori (traditional Japanese good luck charms) and ofuda (slips of paper imbued with the power of the gods) at the Worship Hall. There are many reviews saying that the omamori, which are handmade by the chief priest himself, are incredibly effective!

Takachiho Shrine, for those who want to be with the person they love for the rest of their life
Takachiho Shrine is the soja (head shrine) of the 88 Takachiho shrines. It enshrines Takachiho-Sumigami and Jissha-Daimyojin, both of whom are widely worshipped.
The shrine offers blessings in one’s love life in the form of fateful events, marital harmony, and the fulfillment of various wishes.
The legend goes that if you hold hands with the person you love and walk around the Meoto Sugi three times, that you will be blessed in the form of a harmonious marital life, a safe household, and the prosperity of your children.
There are also many omamori and ofuda available at the conferment site. If you’re at the shrine with the person you love, we recommend you both get a Meoto Sugi omamori, praying when you do that you will be together for the rest of your lives.

Amano-Iwato Shrine, to bring romantic fulfillment and happiness into your life
Ama-no-Iwato Shrine, which is described in literature like the Kojiki (Records of Ancient Matters) and Nihon Shoki (The Chronicles of Japan), is dedicated to Ama-no-Iwato Cave, the hiding place of Amaterasu-Omikami, and enshrines Amaterasu-Omikami.
The shrine offers blessings in one’s love life in the form of the fulfillment of various wishes. Try making a wish in the site of Tenson Korin (god’s descent to earth), in this place so close to the gods.
The Ogatama-no-Ki (Tree of Invocation), located on the grounds of the shrine, is said to bring romantic fulfillment and happiness into your life. We encourage you to visit the tree to receive some of its power.
The omamori and ofuda for Ama-no-Iwato Shrine are available at the conferment site by the West Head Shrine. There are several different types of omamori just for romantic fulfillment, so try looking around for the one that you feel fits you and your needs.

Futagami Shrine, a must-visit shrine for those looking to get married
While Futagami Shrine is located far from central Takachiho Town, it is an absolute must-visit shrine. It is dedicated to Mt. Futagami and enshrines Isanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto.
The shrine offers blessings in one’s love life, in the form of marriage. That’s right—you can receive blessings here specifically for marriage!
The gingko tree on the grounds of the shrine is called the Inyogi, because it is naturally shaped like the symbols for the divine man/woman that created the nation.
The blessings of the tree are said to be in marital harmony and the prosperity of one’s children.
You can also get omamori (traditional Japanese good luck charms) and ofuda (slips of paper imbued with the power of the gods) at the Worship Hall. There are omamori specifically for making your wish come true. Place such an omamori on your person while praying for marriage, and you may very well find that your wish comes true.

Aizometen Shrine, a lesser-known sacred site for marriage proposals
Aizometen Shrine is a lesser-known shrine for fateful events, surrounded by private homes and fields. It enshrines Konohanasakuya-hime.
The shrine offers blessings in one’s love life in the form of fateful events and marital harmony.
The legend goes that Ninigi-no-Mikoto fell in love with and proposed to Konohanasakuya-hime the moment he saw her reflection in the freshwater river. Even now, the river, called Aisome River, runs alongside the shrine.
The proposal site fit for a god, is a sacred site for marriage proposals indeed.
