In the beautiful mountain town of Takachiho there are several places to enjoy the cherry blossom season.

Here we will be introducing you to five different kind of places for flower viewing, enjoy!

1. Shonenji’s Kishi no Ue Kaikan – the perfect place for a break while touring the town

While experiencing Takachiho, why not take a flower viewing break in the middle of town?

Just across the street from Takachiho Shrine you will find Shonenji’s Kishi no Ue Kaikan. It is part of the Genbuzan Shonenji Temple and a quiet oasis in the middle of town. Just outside the temple there is a big beautiful cherry blossom tree with stones and grass under it, absolutely perfect for enjoying the flowers and having a rest during sightseeing.

You know what makes it even better? In the building next-door you can get the famous local ‘Ohisama Cheese manju’, freshly baked! Why not enjoy the fresh local sweets under the cherry blossom tree?

2. Amaterasu Railway – a eventful flower viewing arena

The popular tourist attraction Amaterasu Railway consist of 2 great flower viewing parts – the station itself, and the open-air train ride.

The old retro-cute station is surrounded by cherry blossom trees, making it a absolutely magical area filled with great photo spots! There are different kind of cherry blossom trees here, blooming from March, and finishing with the multi-petal cherry blossoms called Yae, blossoming until as late as May.

Since it’s a popular attraction combined with the cherry blossom season, it is a good idea to arrive early to secure you ticket and some great pictures before boarding.

During the train ride, you will pass through the spring landscaped filled with cherry blossoms.

The Ama no Iwato station is a beautiful cherry blossom area and a place where the carts will pass just before heading onto the Takachiho Railway Bridge.

If you feel like you want more after the train ride, head to Ama no Iwato station and take some pictures of the arriving train cars surrounded by the beautiful cherry blossoms.

3. Ama no Iwato no Yu – Flower viewing from a hot bath, a picnic or during a festival

Heading to Ama no Iwato no Yu, after exiting prefectural road no. 7 and climbing the hill towards the bath house, you can immediately tell your going to the right place. The road is lined with beautiful cherry blossom trees, guiding you to the finally – a parking lot!

The parking lot of Ama no Iwato no Yu is for guest visiting the bath house, and is completely surrounded by gorgeous “Somei Yoshino” cherry blossom trees, welcoming you to the bath house.

This allows you to enjoy the cherry blossoms from the bath as well as from the car, while having a refreshing beverage before heading back home. If your feeling down, this visit is sure to pick you right up!

There is a lot of cherry blossoms in the area surrounding the parking lot that is excellent for a flower viewing picnic! Not to mention the annually held cherry blossom festival, at this very parking lot!

4. Kotobuki park – a hidden gem packed with cherry blossoms

A 15 minutes drive from the Takachiho town city center, lies the district of Tabaru, you will find small a park filled with cherry trees, just off the main road. The park is accessible through several different paths, leading to a open grass area, perfect for a picnic!

Here you can enjoy the countryside landscape of Takachiho in a relaxed pace. There is running water in the park as well as several artistic and usable sitting options available in the park.

The locals gather here during the cherry blossom period for picnics and bbq, and it is a beautiful place to enjoy the cherry blossoms in a village landscape.

5. Takachiho General park – A big lively space for everyone!

A great area for flower viewing, whether you are enjoying the blossoms with family and friends or enjoying your lunch break out in the spring air.

Takachiho general park is filled with cherry blossoms that can be enjoyed sitting down in a traditional flower viewing setting, playing with your kids, going for a run, or just as a beautiful pink landscape while playing baseball or tennis.

The park is centrally located and really is a place for everyone, with easy access and all the conveniences one might need!
